Three hypothetical histories of individuals between ages 16 and 55, the third being mine. The loss of functioning begins with the prodrome, which leads to the first psychosis, which becomes the DUP. The red line represents the functioning level people would have without schizophrenia. With repeated relapses individuals generally become very disabled. The first psychosis responds well to 5 mg. of Olanzapine or 2 mg of Rsiperidone. The dose tends to increase with psychosis relapses Note the dip I experienced at age 30 as I developed a substance abuse problem.
